Daringbadi, often called the 'Kashmir of Odisha', is a hill station in Kandhamal district known for cooler temperatures, pine plantations, coffee estates and occasional winter frost — unusual for a state otherwise associated with coastal heat. It sits at an elevation that gives it a genuinely different climate from the rest of Odisha.
The area is dotted with waterfalls, valley viewpoints and tribal Kandha villages, making it a nature-and-culture combination destination rather than a single-sight stop, best explored over a night or two.
At around 3,000 feet elevation, Daringbadi occasionally records near-freezing winter temperatures, a rarity in Odisha, and its coffee cultivation and pine forests were established during and after the colonial period, giving the landscape a distinctly different character from coastal Odisha.
