Paradeep is Odisha's principal port, handling significant maritime cargo, and its beach and lighthouse are secondary attractions to that industrial role. It sits at the delta of the Mahanadi, close to the Bhitarkanika mangrove system.
Most visitors pass through Paradeep en route to Bhitarkanika or Kendrapara rather than staying, though the lighthouse and port-side views have some interest for those already in the area.

Paradeep has its own railway station connected to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
