Satapada
Chilika Lake's main dolphin-watching gateway, where the lagoon narrows before meeting the Bay of Bengal.
Satapada is a small jetty town rather than a destination to linger in — its purpose is the boat ride out to see Irrawaddy dolphins and, further on, the sandbar where the lake meets the sea. Most visitors come on a half-day trip from Puri rather than staying overnight.
The boat routes also pass fishing villages and, depending on the season, flocks of waterbirds, making it worthwhile even if dolphins do not surface close to the boat.
